Today marks 11 years since the most tragic day in the history of aviation. All of our respect goes out to the thousands killed and their families, along with all the rescue workers and support that helped that fateful day.
One perhaps less known fact is the amazing work that Air Traffic Controllers in the US and Canada did following the order to immediately ground all aircraft in US airspace. In less than an hour, they controlled over 6,500 aircraft carrying nearly 1 million people to safely land at airports across the region. This photo was shot at Halifax where the second runway had to be used to park all these aircraft that were bound for the states.
Just another example of everyday amazing people that you never hear of, yet you could never fly without them. [x]
